George Mason University Students Test 3D-Printed Propellers With the Series 1580
George Mason University students Nick Lanuzo and Tim Quann used our Series 1580 test stand to compare the thrust, torque and efficiency of three different 3D-printed propellers. They also studied the vibration and acceleration properties of the propellers.
The propeller size as well as the cross-sectional airfoil and pitch were selected as the design parameters to analyze. The study included 10x5, 10x3 and 8x4 propellers 3D-printed by the students.
After several experiments, "it was determined that the airfoil and pitch have some effect on performance, while the size of the propeller matters much more. "
